Description: The name of the Archeological Park derives from the Ceiba trees that are around the monuments at the park (the Ceiba tree is Guatemala's national tree). Ceibal is located on the west edge of La Pasión river, which is considered to have been a strategic place for the ancient Maya; this glorious city was “devoured” by the jungle and now you only can appreciate some remnants as monoliths. It is recommended to begin your tour on La Pasión River, starting in Sayaxché and finishing in Ceibal Archaeological Park. The best time to visit these localities is between November and June, which is the dry season, so that you’ll evade mosquitoes.
